The week of May 11-16 saw the Boys & Girls Activity Centers of Hungary participate in the 109th annual conference of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. As the only Boys & Girls Club operating in Europe, the Hungarian contingent was greatly outnumbered by international delegates from Africa and the Americas, but they proudly represented Hungary and Europe.

Director Mónika Horváth, Early Childhood Educational Expert Nóra Erdélyi and ESL Specialist Tamara Bosnyák represented BGAC in Chicago, USA, for a week of seminars, workshops and a trip to a Boys & Girls Club in Chicago.

“The trip was very productive,” said Monika Horvath. “We will be able to directly apply the lessons, techniques and information we learned at the conference to our programs here in Hungary, making them better and more effective at giving children here in Hungary a bilingual opportunity to learn and grow in a safe, positive environment.”

This is the second year in a row that BGAC has attended the conference of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

In February of 2015, Glenn Permuy, Senior Executive for Special and International Initiatives for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, visited Budapest and the Boys & Girls Activity Centers of Hungary, and came away very impressed by the club’s programs and the professionalism of the staff.

“The staff is highly skilled and professional, the programs run there are of the highest quality… They hit all points of the BGCA mission statement of providing a positive, safe learning environment with a focus on skill development and making a difference,” Permuy wrote in a letter of recommendation (provide hyperlink to copy of letter here) he provided to BGAC.

As the only Boys & Girls Club operating in Europe, BGAC is very grateful to the recognition Mr. Permuy gave it.

“Having someone as qualified and respected as Glenn Permuy come here and see our operation and give it such a ringing endorsement is a big boost to our confidence,” said Monika Horvath, founder and Director of Manó-Világ Kft. “It tells us that we are on the right path in providing quality bilingual education and programs to the children of Hungary. We hope his letter of recommendation will help us in getting the financial and material support we need to continue to grow our programs and make them better.”
