BGC – English Afterschool Program Introduction

English Afterschool programIn September of 2013, we launched our bilingual elementary school program, in the new wing of and working together with the Csata Street Elementary School of the 13th district.
During the morning hours, the children learn according to the National Curriculum Framework, and in the afternoons they take part in our bilingual after-school program/ after-school English club (BGC), coordinated by our native English-speaking teachers.
We are the first in Europe to receive the rights of starting a program in co-operation with the non-profit organization, called Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), and create a sister-club, called Boys and Girls Clubs of Hungary. We have been able to incorporate the BGCA’s developed thematic and age-specific programs into our own.
After-school programs in the United States are provided by the BGCA, with about 4,000 clubs and a number of 4,000,000 participants, aged 5-18, annually.
In our Hungarian-English bilingual classroom, along with the Hungarian teacher, the native English-speaking teacher leads and manages the afternoon program from 1 PM to 5 PM. Thus, all the afternoon activities, excluding homework time, are held in English. As part of our program, we have different thematic activities every afternoon, including sports, music, drama, health, science, and arts.

Our goal:
